Casa Battló, named after the owners of the time, completely redesigned Antoni Gaudí between 1904 and 1906 and designed a small selection of seating – chairs and benches – especially for this residential and commercial building in the heart of Barcelona. Like the charismatic building on whose facade the legend of Saint George is immortalized, the furniture designed for the building also bear Gaudí’s unique signature. The shape of the function is subsonated in both the Battló Bench and the Battló Chair. A rear-rolled seat and a backrest that enlarges the seated lend ergonomic comfort to the Battló Chair.
The Battló Chair is more like a sculpture than a bench. Although the Battló Chair is made of solid oak, it does not look chunky or heavy due to its delicate and elegant design. The special construction of the Battló Chair immediately catches the eye. The wooden chair has solid legs, which give the Battló Chair a solid stand. Together with a concave curved backrest, this gives the Battló Chair a certain dynamism and is an expression of the special design of the Grand Master Gaudí.
In the working room, the dining room, the kitchen, in the hallway or a previously unused niche – the Battló Chair invites you to linger for a short or longer time. As a highlight at the reception, seat in a head office or meeting room, the Battló Chair stands for discreet luxury, which a connoisseur recognizes and appreciates. The furniture of the Battló Collection offered in the TAGWERC Design STORE is not just furnishings – they are design objects and art pieces at the same time, which take the viewer and the user on a journey into design history.
In 1975, BD Barcelona revived the furniture of the Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí. Furniture designed by Antoni Gaudí for his houses Casa Batlló and Casa Calvet is produced according to exactly the same elaborate production processes that were used in the production of the first pieces at that time. In addition to the „Batlló Bench“, „Batlló Chair“, „Calvet Armchair“, “Calvet Chair“ and „Calvet Bench“, named after the houses, the “Calvet Mirror” and the “Calvet Wall Wardrobe”, there are stylistic elements such as door handles and peepholes, so-called “spies”, that make Gaudí’s unique Modernisme design style experienceable in the own four walls.
The Battló Chair is part of BD Barcelona’s Art Editions, which includes exclusively in-house art objects – unique and of timeless elegance and value. TAGWERC, the official partner of BD Barcelona, offers the original designs from the Art Editions of BD Barcelona – online and offline.
