Amoebe Highback Lounge chair
Tonus, an extremely robust and stretchy fabric, is made by the Danish fabric specialist Kvadrat. The fabric Tonus consists of a mix of new wool and Helanca. This provides the special elasticity that makes Tonus the perfect upholstery for organically shaped furniture such as the Amoebe, Amoebe Highback or Living Tower, almost all upholstered furniture by designer Verner Panton. In the 1960s, Danish textile designer Nina Koppel combined natural new wool with Helanca, an extremely elastic yarn made from industrially produced polyamide fibre. For organic forms such as the lounge chair Amoebe and Amoebe Highback, the fabric Tonus proves to be an ideal choice.

They were part of Verner Panton’s legendary Visiona 2 exhibition within the context of the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1970, the Amoebas.
The skilfully curved armchairs arranged atmospheric in the ambience of countless Ring Lamp were thought up by Verner Panton in two finishes. While the backrest of the Amoebe ends below the shoulders, the organically shaped backrest of the Amoeba Highback ends above the head of the sitter. This special form of design creates a space in the space feeling and at the same time peruades security. Features that fit perfect in open spaces with integrated living / dining room, lofts and studios, as well as in public spaces like library, foyers, lobbies, receptions areas, where they create rest areas.
The amoeba, the protozoon with variable figure, was the inspiration source. An organically shaped plastic bowl, integrated in a foam upholstery, specifies the form. From 1970 the upholstered furniture company Hukla in Gegenbach, Germany. and the French company Airborne International in Montreuilsous-Bois made the Amoeba series, indeed, without plastic core.
Vitra produces the Amoebe Highback Tonus as re-design with even more comfortable backrest since 2006 and 2008. TAGWERC delivers this exclusive and exceptional seating object in the original with certificate and including feld pads.
